Jewelry with a conscience. Art as the perfect accessory. An expression of life.

Recycling rough materials into miniature sculptures meant to be worn, Mio Studio crafts new life from exotic hardwoods and precious metals. Artists Mayra Orama Muñiz and Erica Millner hand carve and sand each piece from to start to finish, using their years of experience to meld remnants and scraps together into clean, modern designs.

It starts with a plank of hardwood, hours of handcrafted dedication, and an eye for clean, modern designs. It ends with an expression of life, a miniature sculpture waiting to be worn. Mio Studio redeems the remnants of rough materials, taking scraps of exotic hardwood and precious metals and melding them together into jewelry with a conscience.

Open Studio Artwalk

Spring is really here

Now, even with the new studio it seems impossible to not want to run around outside in the beautiful weather. We are selling more pieces on etsy.com. We are thinking of creating an entire line just for that site. Pieces that are less labor intensive and less expensive. I actually took off a whole day on Saturday, something I haven't done in a while. But we worked a full day Sunday.

Saturday Night

Now we really want to buy the building next to our studio. The Blue Star is for sale and hopefully it will be sold to someone who cares about the block. The new owner will make the difference. Our new tenant moves in on the 12th. Kayne came to the studio for the first time on Friday. He got used to the place after awhile but it was too dusty for him. Pinto is still scared to be there after we used the nail gun. The other two just lie in the sun and relax.

The day after the PA primary

One less thing to worry about, the primary is over. We got up early and voted Tuesday before going to the studio. The weather has been amazing. We took a very long lunch break. Walked downtown to the post office mailed out some orders. We had this amazing stromboli at the pizza place, really amazing like NJ amazing. Went to the Central market and the bank and walked back to the studio. It was hard to stay inside and get work done. I organized the basement a little bit, at least now I can find the scotch tape.

First real week

this is the first real week at the studio. We had a show in Tampa and then scrambled back home to get the workshop set-up for artwalk. We had mostly friends come to the studio during the opening. We had live music with trixie and dave frances. They were wonderful and really got working in the studio off to a great start.

Friday 4.04.08

Tomorrow we move into our new studio @ 616 Columbia Ave. All of the major work is finished. Last week was spent chiseling off the layers of linoleom and tar paper. Then we sanded the floors stained them from a white pine to a rich walnut, then the poly, stain finish. It is really beautiful empty with all the light coming in from the windows.
